Janny Xue Chen Ke

Dr. Janny Ke is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics at The University of British Columbia (UBC), an anesthesiologist at Providence Health Care in Vancouver, BC, and an adjunct member of the Department of Anesthesia, Pain Management & Perioperative Medicine at Dalhousie University. She completed medical school at UBC, anesthesiology residency at Dalhousie University, and Master of Science in Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. Her research interests include understanding the impact of extreme weather and climate change on perioperative outcomes, predicting and monitoring for complications after surgery at a population level, and use and evaluation of artificial intelligence in clinical research and patient care.

Anton Chau
MD MMSc FRCPC
Dr. Anton Chau is an anesthesiologist and clinician-investigator with joint appointments at BC Women’s Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital. Following completion of his anesthesiology residency at the University of British Columbia, he undertook a clinical fellowship in obstetric anesthesia at Brigham and Women’s Hospital under the mentorship of Dr. Lawrence Tsen. He later completed a research fellowship in obstetric anesthesia and obtained a Master’s degree in Clinical and Translational Research from Harvard Medical School. His research interests focus on maternal and perinatal health outcomes, neuraxial analgesia and anesthesia techniques, and patient and medication safety.

Alana Flexman

Dr. Alana Flexman is an anesthesiologist at St. Paul’s Hospital/Providence Health Care and a Clinical Associate Professor in the UBC Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology and Therapeutics. She is the Director of Research for the Department of Anesthesia, and an affiliated scientist with the Centre for Advancing Health Outcomes at St. Paul’s Hospital.
Jasmin Moreno
MPH
Jasmin graduated from UBC’s Master of Public Health program in May 2026 and completed her MPH practicum with Fraser Health Authority’s Sustainability & Preparedness team. Her interests center around environmental health, climate change, and healthcare improvement and sustainability. In August 2026, she will wrap up her time as a Health Quality BC summer intern, during which she contributed to sustainable perioperative initiatives within Providence Health Care. She is excited to be joining the ADAPT Lab and working as part of a team towards a healthier planet.

Nicola Edwards

Nicola Edwards is the Senior Research Program Manager for the Department of Anesthesiology at Providence Health Care. She has a Bachelors in Health Sciences (Honours) from the University of Calgary and a Masters in Healthcare Administration from the University of British Columbia. Nicola oversees and guides the Anesthesia Research Program at St. Paul’s Hospital. She facilitates collaboration between clinician researchers, institutions and industry sponsors. She manages research finance and supervises multiple Research Coordinators and Research Assistants. Her current profile spans from equity in research recruitment to delirium reduction strategies and regional anesthesia innovations for pain control in cardiac surgery patients.

Jonathan Guan

Jonathan Guan is a current medical student at UBC, coming from a Bachelor of Health Sciences from McMaster University. He is excited to be back in Vancouver, and to be involved in perioperative research for communities close to home.
Martin Chak Wah Yu

Martin Yu is a medical student in the Undergraduate MD Program at The University of British Columbia (UBC), and a clinical pharmacist at Fraser Health, BC. He completed pharmacy school at UBC and his PGY1 hospital residency training with UBC. His research is conducted within the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics and the Therapeutics Initiative. His research interests include perioperative outcomes and patient safety, with a focus on optimizing medication use and monitoring strategies across the perioperative setting. He is particularly interested in improving clinical decision-making through evidence synthesis and outcomes research, as well as exploring system-level factors such as workforce health and the impact of external stressors on perioperative care.
Stephanie Quon

Stephanie is a third-year medical student at UBC, who previously completed her undergraduate degree in electrical engineering. She is interested in planetary health and accessibility, and has been involved in research projects related to occupational health in anesthesia and the impact of artificial intelligence on perioperative care.
Matthew Garrett

Matthew Garrett is a medical student at the Max Rady College of Medicine, University of Manitoba, where he also completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences. His interests are in anesthesiology and global health. He is excited to be working on how surgical and perioperative care systems can adapt to climate change.
